Poking holes in the sky, one rocket at a time.
Christopher took his rocketry to the next level at the most recent club launch by flying his first mid power rocket. The LOC Aura kit was his first venture into a 29mm motor and involved learning how to work with epoxy. He adapted fairly well to working with the time sensitive adhesive but I often had to urge him on to complete operations quickly. Working with gloves that are clearly not designed for his size hands was also a challenge.
His flew the relatively small Aura on a F20-7W and it streaked out of sight. We all heard the ejection charge but no one spotted the six foot fluorescent orange streamer! After a couple minutes watching we were afraid the motor had kicked out without deployment. I was getting ready to send him out on the best search line when I noticed a mass of orange off to the left of the pad about 40 yards. Sure enough that was it! It had indeed deployed but must have come down fast as the nose cone was buried about an inch. All in all a successful flight and a great achievement for Christopher
